Who You're Calling
Somar
Owner & technician
For years I was the person friends and family called when something stopped working. The slow laptop, the printer that refused to connect, the new computer still in its box. Somars exists so anyone can get that help, not only the people who happen to know a technician.
I work on my own. The person who answers the phone is the person who arrives at your door and does the work. I explain what I find in words you can use.
Somars is a new business serving Toronto & the GTA. If something has stopped working, or a new machine needs setting up, get in touch and we will come to you.

Be Our FirstCommon Questions
Do you really come to my house?
Yes, that is the normal way we work. Setups, software problems, Wi-Fi and printer trouble all get done at your place, usually in one visit. You keep everything plugged in where it is. Jobs that need the workbench, like a laptop screen or a data recovery, we collect and return. Add your postal code when you ask for a quote and we will confirm you are in range and what the trip costs.
I just bought a new laptop. What does setup include?
We unbox it, complete the first-time setup, and connect your email, Wi-Fi, and printer. Then we install the apps you use and sign you into them, move your files, photos, and bookmarks across from the old machine, and switch on updates, antivirus, and a backup so it stays healthy. Before we leave we walk you through anything that works differently from your old computer. Most setups take one to two hours.
Will you be able to see my photos and messages?
For most hardware work we never sign in. We only need the machine to power on so we can test it. When a job genuinely needs an account, such as a software recovery or moving your files to a new computer, you unlock it yourself and we stay in the folders the job needs. Anything we copy is deleted once you confirm it all arrived.
How much will it cost?
You get a flat price before any work starts, and that price is what you pay. The diagnostic that produces the quote is free. If the parts turn out to cost more than expected once we are inside the machine, we stop and call you first. Our published starting prices are on the prices page.
What if you cannot fix it?
You pay nothing. The diagnostic is free and we only charge for a repair we complete, so you get the device back as it arrived along with a plain note on what we found. If it is fixable but the cost outweighs the value of the machine, we will say so and explain why.
How long does it take?
Setups and most software problems are done in a single visit. Upgrades like memory or a solid-state drive are usually same day. Hardware repairs run one to three days, and most of that time is spent waiting on a part. Custom builds take two to four days. Data recovery varies the most, so you get an estimate with your quote and a call if anything changes.
Do you build gaming PCs, or just office computers?
Both. Tell us your budget and what you want to run, and we will put together a parts list that spends the money where it shows up in performance. We build it, tidy the cabling, set up the BIOS and fan curves, install Windows and your apps, then stress-test it before handover. Every part keeps its manufacturer warranty registered in your name.
Is my computer too old to be worth repairing?
Often it is worth it. A solid-state drive and extra memory can turn a five-year-old machine that takes ten minutes to start into one that boots in seconds, usually for a fraction of the price of replacing it. There is a point where the money is better spent on something new, and when we reach it we will tell you plainly.
Do you charge to come out and look?
The visit and the diagnostic are free, whether or not you go ahead with the work. You find out what is wrong at no cost, and you decide from there.
